Supporting wise action

What do I do, with whom?

I help senior leaders create wise, grounded plans of action for systems & process improvement.

Are you facing ambiguity with no clear route forward, whilst needing to make a confident decision on 'what next' or how to deliver strategic outcomes? That's where I can help.

What's my story?

My name is Keith Shering. I help people leading systems and process change to make wise choices and plans of action.

I work with CxOs & Managers in 50-500+ person organisations responsible for people, processes, technology and data, who need clear decisions or roadmaps of action grounded in reality and built from wisdom.

I facilitate discovery, evaluation & design to make wise choices and elevate ways of working; to bring clarity on situation, confidence in options, reduced risk and improved operations.

Unlike in-house people, I bring fresh eyes and targeted analysis tools. Unlike big management consultants, I am pragmatic; action-orientated but not looking to take over. Unlike tech-driven consultancies, I advocate for you – I'm not trying to sell any software or bureau solutions.

Do you feel that leadership decisions lay bare your judgement for all to see, often in high consequence situations? Would it help to bring additional experience into your wisdom equation? 'Wisdom' can be seen as 'knowledge applied in context, with judgement'. For more than 25 years, I've worked with organisations from 2-7,000 people, with a sweet-spot around 50-500 employees. I've helped unlock decisions, designs and delivery in commercial, public sector, not for profit and startup organisations in NZ and the UK. I truly understand the need to bridge and connect the truth of 'too much detail' and the clarity of the '100,000 foot view' to create context and support judgement.

How do we make that happen?

We'll use proven techniques and models from Business Analysis and Business Architecture. We'll pull in evidence and experience from real business situations and outcomes. Together these help us distil clarity from the ambiguity and possibilities.

Working together, I help you visualise and evaluate areas like value, opportunity, risk, priority, effort and capability. This lets you make tactical decisions with confidence, or create forward-looking, actionable roadmaps you and your team can believe in.

No improvement happens without people changing. Getting the right people involved at the right time through decisions and change is crucial to winning the hearts and minds that are instrumental in delivering success. We identify and interview people with knowledge to share, in 1:1 interviews, workshops, remote sessions, or even surveys, Teams calls and emails.

Meaningful system and process improvement is rarely 'one and done'. It's often incremental and means making it safe to try-fail-learn quickly and well. Testing thinking with strong, simple models, and visual techniques really helps to identify areas of risk, friction, delay, opportunity and differentiation, before making major commitments. Wisdom before action.

Can you put down on a single page the crux of the opportunity and challenge you face? That's a great jumping-off point for aligning people to implement change - but it's not easy. That's why I use the visual tools that have most helped me and my clients across challenges spanning startups, growth businesses, highly-regulated organisations and changing circumstances. Visual tools are easy for a wide range of people to lean into and contribute to, and encourage (sometimes force) brevity and prioritisation.

What next?

What do you need? To bounce ideas around? To address a specific, time-bound situation? To bring additional capability into a forthcoming programme? I can work in a range of ways, from short-sharp advisory sessions, through focused, time-boxed projects, to more open-ended, value-driven engagements.
